Before you begin

Your kitchen renovation questions.

What affects the cost of a kitchen renovation?

Whether the kitchen stays where it is. New cabinets and finishes in the same layout cost less than moving a sink, a wall, or the electrical. Cabinets and counters are usually the largest material cost. Andy looks at the room, talks through what you want to change, and prices that scope before you commit.

How long does a kitchen renovation take?

Often longer before demolition than after it. Cabinets are ordered before the kitchen comes apart, and that wait is commonly the longest part. Once work starts, a same-layout kitchen is a shorter job than one with plumbing or a wall coming out. Andy will separate the ordering time from the time you are actually without the room.

How long will I be without a kitchen?

Not for the whole project. You can keep using it while cabinets and finishes are chosen and ordered. After demolition, plan on no sink or stove until the new ones are in. Set up a microwave, a kettle, and a fridge somewhere else before that day. Andy will say, before work starts, which stretch that is likely to be.

Can the layout of my kitchen change?

Yes, if the house allows it. A sink wants to stay near the plumbing it already has. A wall may be holding up the floor above. The new layout still has to leave room to cook, wash, and put food away. Andy will say what can move, what should not, and what that does to the price before the plan is approved.

Do I need a permit for a kitchen renovation?

It depends on the full scope of the work. Replacing finishes is a different job from moving plumbing, changing electrical, or taking out a wall. Andy checks the permit requirements for the whole project before work starts. Priority One pulls the required permits and books the inspections.
